I had intended to have a surprise for you all today… I filmed myself working on this drawing yesterday, talking about techniques, tricks, color theory, skin tone, anatomy of the face and all manner of things. To make a long story short, I now know that I have 457 bad blocks on my hard drive and damn if that video didn’t land squarely in the middle of them. More than 50% of the video is scrambled video or screeching audio.

“But Steve”, you say, “Why not just pull it from the camera again?”. Ha! I deleted it from the camera after import! And the best part is I never do that unless and until I know the imported files are safe and sound. Lesson learned.

I’ve no idea yet if any of its salvageable, but I’m doubting it. I’ll try another at some point once I’ve dealt with this troublesome Macbook.

This drawing is for the portrait study group that I’m in with Rose, Jeanette, Kevin and some other folks. Every month we’re doing a portrait, working from the same reference and giving each other critiques and helpful advice along the way. I’ll be coming in under the wire with mine, getting this late start.

I think I can state unequivocally that this is the first and last orange I will ever endeavor to render. What a pain…I’ll take a face over fruit any day.

Having a rough time with the peel on the right side of the canvas…I’ve pulled up all the pigment with scotch tape and started it over twice – it may be in for a third try.
