“Clementine”, Complete

I think I can state unequivocally that this is the first and last orange I will ever endeavor to render. What a pain…I’ll take a face over fruit any day.

Colored pencil drawing of a clementine orange.

This was, of course, for the January 2009 Virtual Sketch Date. Thanks to Jeanette for providing the reference image this month. And if you didn’t already know, there is now a Flickr Group for you to post your images to as well.

I, too, prefer the faces and feel your pain! But, oh, what a great job you did on this piece. Love it.

It may have been troublesome but this is a fantastic piece! Nicely done :)

It is too bad you will not do another orange/clementine. This one turned out exceptionally well. It is one of my favourites, so far. Yes, it was a challenge. But you rose to that challenge and created one heck of a beautiful piece.

hahahaha I have felt that way with so many subjects! It turned out great though!

I love your drawing of the clementine. It is so real, so full of colour, beautifully done. It looks like you enjoyed it, hard to believe you didn’t. Glad we all got to see it.

I second or third or whatever the comments – it is a shame you will no longer be rendering fruit as this is outstanding! Love the extra touches of blues, greens, and purples.

Sometimes I think the images we make don’t depend very much on how much we enjoyed the process. Your clementine glows, and has a translucence that is lovely.

This is just awesome. You probably feel you wouldn’t touch fruit again, but I feel it would be a shame. The trouble with me, is that I have spent too long looking at all your other paintings, and there are so many VSD’s to get through. Don’t ever doubt yourself again, you are fantastic.

Pain often brings rewards. Someday you will look back and see the beauty of the results without the memory of the painful work. Simply beautiful!
