“Untitled”, Update #1

February 21st, 2009 · 3 Comments

Assuming Flickr’s weird DNS issues aren’t effecting the display of the image, here’s what I’ve been working on over the past few days:

In progress colored pencil portrait of my son.
Untitled | Colored Pencil on Colourfix Paper | 9 x 12"

Though it appears that this is quite a lot of progress, its really only a few hours of work. The drawing itself is pretty small on the 9×12 surface so its going pretty quickly. I’ve not decided if I’ll leave it this way or crop it to a smaller size.

This is, of course, my son Emre shooting deadly rays of cuteness from his eyes. I took the reference photo of him in November in my studio while I was working on this drawing of him. As I worked, I would occasionally show him the drawing, and he would light up with a huge grin on his face (He does this with all of my drawings, now – he looooves to look at artwork). So, I grabbed the camera, got down on the floor with him and took several photos of him using the drawing as “smile bait”. This is the best of them all.
